Horse on the footbridge
Dear Editor:
I have observed the visiting horse walking on the footbridge. I asked the owner if the town allowed him to do it and he said yes.
Engineers have posted signs that no more than 12 people are allowed on each span.
A neighbor that used to groom horses told me the weight of that horse was at least 1200 to 1300 pounds, but probably more.
I have three major concerns: 1) Is the town liable for any accidents?; 2) Why would the horse owner put his horse in such danger?; and 3) The town is putting the fire department in a daunting situation should the horse break through the bridge, which is under strict weight limits.
