Hearty Roots program at Harbor Theater

On Sunday, Sept. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m., Harbor Theater hosts Hearty Roots with a program to help turn young adults toward the outdoors – away from screens and into meaningful adventures, where real connections are made with real people amid Maine’s wild spaces.

Sponsored by Harbor Theater Community Partner Tyler Tibbetts Realty, the event features a documentary film, “Childhood 2.0” (NR, 1 hour, 28 minutes), considered required viewing for anyone who wants to better understand the world their children are navigating as they grow up in the digital age. Featuring actual parents and kids as well as industry-leading experts in child safety and development, this documentary dives into the real-life issues facing kids today — including cyberbullying, online predators, suicidal ideation, and more.

The program also includes a panel discussion with local teens, and a brief homegrown Hearty Roots mini-film, featuring the kids and land of our Midcoast community. Tools and resources for dealing with the issues of screen addiction and social media use will also be shared.

Hearty Roots believes every kid deserves a chance to “get off the grid and into their heart.” For more information on Hearty Roots year-round programming, their capital campaign for the “Hearty Roots Campus for Mindful Adventure,” or sponsoring a child’s hearty adventure through scholarship, visit heartyroots.org. They can’t wait to meet you in Maine’s wild, where journeys overlap.

Let adolescent youth know they aren’t alone as they navigate technology that’s changed the way we all engage.

The evening is free, with a suggested donation of $20. All proceeds will go directly to scholarships for participants. Reserve your free ticket(s) to the Sept. 24 event at www.heartyroots.org/community-events/teensandtech.
