Health Center’s Fit, Flexible & Strong Wellness program starts its fourth year

Sat, 08/31/2019 - 8:00am

The Boothbay Region Health Center will again be offering the Fit, Flexible, & Strong Wellness Program under the direction of Mary Baudo, MA, certified personal training and wellness coach.

“We're very excited to have Mary leading this program again. She has an extensive background in wellness and shares the same passion of patient empowerment which is part of the BRHC mission,” says BRHC board president Patty Seybold. “We're also grateful to the Community Center, which allows us to use their Annex (right across the hall from our Health Center in the Meadow Mall), for this twice-weekly wellness program.”

Mary covers a variety of wellness topics in the bi-weekly meetings, in addition to exercises for the whole body, which include strength, flexibility and balance. Additionally, participants are encouraged to engage in other forms of exercise and wellness that are offered in and around the community. Here's what one participant had to say about last year's program: “My physician told me that, at 68, I am in better health now than I was 10 years ago. And, thanks to your program, I have the strength and endurance to push my husband's wheelchair easily. Your class is so important to me and my health.” Another participant reported: “One of the biggest differences between this program and an exercise class is Mary's coaching about healthy lifestyle choices. The camaraderie and support of the group is also very important to me. It helped me get through the grief of losing my husband, and left to my own, I'm not as likely to follow a regular regimen.” And, another: “Mary is the best feature of this class. Her support and guidance keep me trying to do better. The exercises and skills Mary teaches help me to a healthy aging. I don't understand why there isn't a waiting list for this program!”

The first session’s registration will begin immediately in September and the program will start on Monday, Oct. 7 and run through January 2020. A second session will run February through May 2020. Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 and 11 a.m. with a more mobile and less mobile group. A minimum of 20 people and a maximum of 25 are needed to enroll. Cost is $175 per session for returning participants and $225 for new students. The cost includes all class meetings and wellness assessments. New students will get a customized individual wellness plan. Participants can apply for financial assistance for the registration fee when signing up.
