Harbor Theater’s free drive-in event: ‘Despicable Me’

Come on out and enjoy a real, old-fashioned drive-in movie before winter sets in Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Meadow Mall. This is a make-up for the canceled third night of the summer outdoor movie events that were so popular this summer. It’s late in the season, and it could be a little cold, but bundle up the kids, bring the blankets, and grab your last chance to see a movie on the big 30-foot screen.

“Despicable Me” will start at 5 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Harbor Theater. It’s a drive-in only event, 50-car limit. First come first served. Please wear your mask when outside the car and practice social distancing.

Come early, between 4 and 4:30 p.m. Volunteers will be waiting to help you find a parking place. Watch the Looney Tunes cartoons that start at 4:45. Get your food and settle in for the feature film that will start when it’s dark, around 5 p.m. “Despicable Me” is rated PG and 1 hour, 35 minutes, so you will be home by 7 p.m.

Harbor Theater will be taking orders for popcorn, candy and sodas from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 7. Call 633-0438. Payment may be made by credit card at that time. Orders will be available for pick up curbside at the Theater between 4 and 4:45 p.m.

House of Pizza will also be taking orders over the phone for pizzas. A table will be set up curbside for pick-up of orders. Payment by credit card only over the phone, 633-3468, when the order is taken.

This is the original (2010), family friendly “Despicable Me” with the voices of Steve Carell, Julie Andrews and Will Arnett.  It’s a family-friendly movie about a man who delights in all things wicked. Super villain Gru (Steve Carell) hatches a plan to steal the moon. Surrounded by an army of little yellow minions and his impenetrable arsenal of weapons and war machines, Gru makes ready to vanquish all who stand in his way. But nothing in his calculations and groundwork has prepared him for his greatest challenge: three adorable orphan girls (Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Elsie Fisher) who want to make him their dad.

A word of caution: if you turn on your car now and then to rev up the heat, please remember to turn off your lights so they don’t bother those in front of you. And, if you run down your battery, we will be there with jumps to help you after the show. Sound will be found on FM Radio and the dial number will be displayed at the drive-in.

For more information call the theater, 633-0438.
