letter to the editor

In gratitude

    Dear Editor:

Last Tuesday I was driving home in the morning from Boothbay. A light I had never seen appeared on my dash and, within three minutes, the car lost acceleration, shut down completely (i.e. no power steering), and rolled to a complete stop. All bad enough but, even worse, it happened on the rotary! I ended up with my front end near the sidewalk on the Green - off the driving lane for others to pass slowly.

Needless to say, I was a bit of a wreck. I turned on the hazard lights and within 30 seconds, a pickup truck pulled up behind me. He waved cars by and asked if I was okay. After he ascertained all was okay, he moved his truck off the rotary and returned - this time wearing his DOT vest and hat! Meanwhile a second pickup stopped on the rotary apron and approached us to offer help. This truck was a Hagar construction vehicle. After looking under the hood and seeing nothing they could do, they pushed and steered my car off the rotary and on to the road that leads to the public restrooms.

All of this was accomplished within four or five minutes. I couldn’t thank them enough! I was close to tears over their kindness and concern. Before they left, they made sure my husband and Triple A were on their way.  Oh - and Triple A , from Hawke Motors, arrived in 15 minutes! Again, another really nice gentleman made such a difference in my day.

It seems that we hear so much these days about all that is wrong with the world. So, I wanted to share this bit of sunshine. Thank you again to the three gentlemen who took time out of their day to make my day better.
