Two young Boothbay Region Elementary School students join BRES Principal Mark Tess in accepting another $1,000 donation from Boothbay Harbor Hannaford representatives Evelyn Andrews and Ben Convery on Monday, April 24. BRES was once again the local recipient of the Hannaford Helps Schools fundraiser held this past fall and early winter. Schools earn money through customer purchases and since its inception, Hannaford Helps Schools has raised more than $9.2 million for schools in New England and New York. Nicole LaBrecque, left, and Hannah Winslow, pictured here in Florence, Italy, are on spring break in Europe. Both Boothbay Region High School graduates are studying abroad at University College Cork in Cork, Ireland. Nicole attends Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, studying physical therapy. Hannah attends the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a major in legal studies. Both reside this semester in Ireland about three blocks from one another, and have taken off to Europe for a two-week adventure. So far they have taken in the sights, sounds and a variety of new foods in Italy, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic. They will be finishing their tour of Europe by visiting Germany and France before returning to Ireland on April 26. When they arrive back at UCC they will take their finals and then return to the United States on May 14. Courtesy photo
On Monday, May 1, nurses from LincolnHealth will take your blood pressure and help you better understand any medications you may be taking. They will also answer questions about Lyme disease and provide information on local care providers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Miles Memorial Hospital League Thrift Shop on Church Street in Damariscotta and at the St. Andrews Thrift Shop at 185 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor.
