Generous community
Dear Editor:
I recently attended the Maine Adult Education Association Conference, and for the second year in a row, I took with me a Best of Boothbay raffle basket for the annual adult scholarship fundraiser. I was simply blown away by the easy generosity of just about every business and organization I asked to contribute both in 2024 and just last month.
I am still relatively new to the community even though I’ve been director of Boothbay-Wiscasset Regional Adult Education since 2022. But no one hesitated to offer free tickets, fine pottery, or $50 gift cards as I put together a local prize package worth $500. Michelle Davenport, of South Portland Adult Education was the lucky winner.
So I want to thank the following for their support of adult learners in the Boothbay Region and across the state: A Silver Lining, Boothbay Railway Village, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Coastal Maine Popcorn, Edgecomb Potters, Footbridge Brewery, Merry Auld Tea Co., Orne’s Candy Store, Seawicks Candles, Sherman’s, and Smiling Cow.
What’s really the Best of Boothbay? The people, businesses, and organizations that make it make such a wonderful place.
Raye Leonard
