Future may include lighted Clifford Park ball fields

When the Clifford Park renovation is completed, the ball fields won’t have lights, but that may be a temporary situation. Town Manager Dan Bryer reported Aug. 10 during the Boothbay selectmen’s meeting, conduits had been installed providing a future option to light ball fields and power scoreboards. “It would take additional fundraising, but if we want lighted fields and an electronic scoreboard that option exists,” he said.

Once the project is complete, new signage is on tap for the facility. Selectman Steve Lewis reported the park’s new signage would likely be ready for installation later this year. Local businessman Paul Coulombe, who donated $930,000 for the $1.18 million project, is also donating the sign. “I ran into Paul, and he told me Rob Wylie is working on the sign,” he said. Lewis said the sign would read “Coulombe Family Athletic Complex.”

Board Chairman Chuck Cunningham also received a request from Fire Chief Dick Spofford for “redoing” the Clifford Park sign.

In other action, Annabelle Road residents may become eligible for Spectrum cable television and internet services. For years, the road didn’t meet density requirements, but that has changed. “I spoke to a resident who wanted us to call Spectrum because there are a few more residents down there, Selectman Russell Pinkham said.

Blue Hill Shores is another underserved broadband community and these residents may become eligible for broadband soon. Bryer reported a border patrol agent bought a home midway down Blue Hill Shores. “Because of his position, the government cabled to his house. So it’s virtually halfway done,” he said.

Selectmen approved a Central Maine Power pole permit for a new Back Narrows Road home.

Selectmen meet next at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24 in the conference room.
