Friends of Thai Daughters thank you

    Dear Editor:

Family, friends and local supporters of Friends of Thai Daughters (FTD) gathered Saturday, Oct. 12 to celebrate the change of seasons. The event was hosted by FTD co-founders Jane McBride and Patty Zinkowski at their farm on Barters Island. Thai daughter Dao joined the celebration and cooked a delicious soup with Tom Kha Gai, keeping it on the mild side for Maine palettes.

Music was provided by Georgetown singer songwriter Lauren Crosby. Lauren, an ESL teacher, has also been tutoring Dao, eager to improve her English.

Friends of Thai Daughters is entering their 15th year of helping at risk girls in Northern Thailand with a mission of preventing child trafficking with education, shelter and love. Plans for building a third Sunflower House which includes a guest cottages, organic farm and farm to table restaurant are in the works.

Special thanks to Liz Evans of East Boothbay General Store, Winn and Lori Mitchell of Boothbay Craft Brewery, Mark Osborne and Buzz Makarewicz of Topside Inn and Stacey Laird of Capers for their generous support of this event.
