‘Elf Jr.’ makes merry for packed house audiences

Tue, 12/04/2018 - 7:00pm

The Y-Arts production of “Elf Jr. The Musical” performed over the weekend (Dec. 2 and 3) at the Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta gave the standing room only crowds a good dose of holiday spirit.

Directed by Emily Mirabile and assistant Roosevelt “Robo” Bishop, the 40-plus youngsters from the Boothbay Region and Central Lincoln County YMCAs put on a fantastic show Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Ronan Cullina played the lead role of Buddy the Elf superbly and his versatile talents at delivering lines, singing and stage antics at the young age of 11 were evident throughout.

Ten songs were performed, including the very catchy, “(Just Sing) A Christmas Song.” Paige Botts, who played Buddy’s love interest, Jovie, did a fine job on the song, “Never Fall in Love (With an Elf).”

Other lead roles were performed  well by Harrison Pierpan (Walter Hobbs), Alicia Flis (Emily Hobbs), Allie Ferrreira (Michaela Hobbs) and Spencer Pottle (Mr. Greenway).

The dedication and skill which Mirabile and Bishop, who are sister and brother, put into this holiday play are to be commended. Holding many rehearsals with over 40 energetic youngsters, ages 6 to 13, and putting together an enjoyable and well-run show is nothing short of a Christmas miracle. Of course, the directors had help backstage, but the scenes went off with hardly a hitch.

If you missed the show, many of the same singers and dancers will perform at the Y-Arts Holiday Concert on Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. General admission will be $5.
