Donated evergreens symbolize Yuletide

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, many members of the Boothbay Region Garden Club gathered together at the Southport Town Hall for what was no ordinary meeting. Every year, in November, as the days grow shorter and the nights colder leading up to the winter solstice, or Yule, this dedicated group comes together to decorate the evergreen wreaths that will grace the doors and windows of the Boothbay region municipal buildings during the winter holiday season. This year over 40 wreaths were prepared as part of the organization’s winter civic beautification project. Once the bulk of the work was completed, the group enjoyed the camaraderie of a hot and delicious potluck soup luncheon.

Come spring, after the darkness and cold of winter has passed, the Boothbay Region Garden Club (BRGC) will be replacing those wreaths with window boxes that have been planted with beautiful annuals for the community to enjoy!

Winter or summer, the Garden Club welcomes new members to its ranks. For information on how to join, call Sandy Abernathy, 633-0392. BRGC is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
