    Dear Editor:

There was a beautiful service at the Congregational Church and a helluva good party at the Thistle on Sept. 14 to celebrate the life of my husband, Connie Evanofski. Thanks to all who helped us make arrangements and for all who joined us in person or in spirit. A special thanks to the “Hill Gang,” Mike Hall, Sarah Foulger, Ira and Connie Machon and Anya and Dick Reid.

Connie loved Boothbay Harbor. He brought me here in the fall after we were married 36 years ago and we’ve come every summer ever since. We stayed at Harborfields when the kids were very little until we bought our cottage on the hill on Mill Cove Crest in 1997.

From 1964-1969, Connie served in the U.S. Coast Guard, much of that time along the coast of Maine, Portland to Rockland, including a stretch at Boothbay Harbor Station. He told stories of daring rescues, relief lighthouse keeping at Burnt Island and Owl’s Head. He told stories about the old days at the Thistle, Romar Bowling Alley and the antics of being with young seamen in the 1960s. He loved Boothbay Harbor, its traditions, its character, its characters and its charm.

He was anxious and worried about recent changes. I will be making a donation in Connie’s name to the Boothbay Harbor Waterfront Preservation group and invite like-minded friends and family to do the same. The non-profit organization seeks to maintain and enhance the traditional character of Boothbay Harbor; to pursue opportunities to protect the working waterfront and to expand public access to the water. These pursuits are consistent with Connie’s hope for the future of Boothbay Harbor. For more information, contact me or visit their website at http://www.boothbayharborwaterfrontpreservation.com
