Dale Harmon seeks reelection as Boothbay selectman

Fri, 04/23/2021 - 11:45am

    Name: Dale Harmon

Address: 19 Chesebro Lane, East Boothbay

Occupation: Foreman for the Boothbay Region Water District

Education: BRHS class of '89, Central Maine Technical College studying building construction

Political History (Board, Committees): Selectman for 12-plus years, chairman of the board, co-chairman of the board, Joint Economic Development Committee member.

Considering the position you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues:

First and foremost is the lack of affordable housing in this community. We need to attract young families to supply the workforce we desperately need as well as to boost activity in the community and enrollment in our schools. Secondly, promotion of economic development which shifts this community back from a seasonal to a year round, economically thriving place. While a good job has been done to extend the shoulder seasons, more can be done to create year round, safe infrastructure. Lastly,  the board should make efforts to continue on with projects frequently discussed such as bringing sewer and water to the Industrial Park, revamping and modernizing Clifford Playground, broadband, and infrastructure which will put us more in sync with other surrounding communities.

Any other thoughts on why you are running or what you can bring to the office:

I have spent my years as a selectperson trying to do what is best for the community as a whole rather than looking for personal gain. I think it's my commitment to the region which makes me a strong candidate for office. I want this area to grow into the thriving place I knew as a child, and I will work hard to do my part in making it that way.
