CTL welcomes interns

The Center for Teaching and Learning, a K-8 independent school in Edgecomb, hosted a group of teaching interns from Buffalo State College last week. For 30 years, teachers have visited Edgecomb for a week at a time to observe methods developed by CTL’s faculty and adapt them to their own classrooms and schools.

Professors James Cercone and Kristen Pastore-Capuana led a team of undergrad and graduate students to CTL to learn more about the school's teaching model. Carolyn Freeman, Bailey Buckley, Max Wagner, Zachary Ogren, Jarrett Whipple, and Emilee Misener observed classes and discussed their observations with school faculty each day. They examined student writing and learned about CTL's approach to assessment.

CTL alumni parents Scott and Corinne Larson generously subsidized the interns' and professors' rooms at the Cod Cove Inn.

Teachers from 45 states, Washington, D.C.; and Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, England, India, Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Uganda have participated so far in the program. Classroom teachers may apply to become interns at CTL; the fee they pay helps underwrite tuition assistance for CTL students.
