letter to the editor

Collins’ lack of integrity

Mon, 03/16/2020 - 3:15pm

    Dear Editor:

I am a resident of Southport and grew up in Randolph, Maine. During the recent impeachment hearings and trial, I was disappointed that Susan Collins did not pick up the mantle of our former senator, Margaret Chase Smith. Her "Declaration of Conscience” made to the Senate during the McCarthy Era eerily could have been written in response to our current president’s mode of leadership. I have attached a link to that declaration which recently appeared in the magazine, American Heritage.  If I were a better writer I would have sent a letter to your editorial board expressing that opinion: https://www.americanheritage.com/woman-who-said-no-mccarthy-0

My question is this: Did the Register consider an editorial reminding Senator Collins of Senator Smith’s remarkable level of integrity and Senator Collins’ lack of it?

    Thanks for your time.
