Who would have thought the Celtics and Lakers would be playing a championship in Boothbay Harbor? Well they did, but not the ones you may be thinking of!

The Boothbay Region YMCA youth basketball teams, grades 4-6, squared off on Saturday, Feb. 19 in the gymnasium for the final games and championship match. It was a close game, but the Celtics won, 37-32.

The teams were coached by Lisa Hallinan (Celtics) and Hannah Morley (Lakers). The players showed off their basketball skills and engaged family, friends and neighbors.

Members of the Celtics are Lilly Brown, Ellis Evans, Xavi Hall, Alex Hughes, Addie Barter, Jay Barter, Ben Hodgdon, Lessie White and Miles Murray.

Lakers players include Peyton Barter, Ava Barter, Wyatt Jones, Olivia Hardwick, Carson Cook, Ryder Baker, Spencer Wade, Isaiah Bates, Nerla Bates, Meabh Hennessey, Samantha Colby and Abby Babineau.

The BRYMCA championship is over, but Hallinan’s girls travel team, the Boothbay Seahawks, will play games through the end of March. Hallinan did her own fundraising for the uniforms. Morley will help with the coaching as her time permits. The first scrimmage is in Damariscotta this Thursday.
