Two Seahawks have landed in Boothbay Harbor. On Sept. 23, the Boothbay Region High School Class of 1971 gifted two concrete Seahawk statues to the school. The class gift was attached to a school welcoming sign. Tom Nickerson is a member of the Class of  ’71. He thought the twin statues would be a great 50th anniversary gift. “I travel around watching my grandsons play basketball. It seems every school has a mascot statue so I thought we ought to have one, too,” Nickerson said.

So he posted his idea on the class Facebook page and the donations poured in a couple days later. Another classmate, Jon Marsh, painted the concrete Seahawks gold. And Clayton Pottle, also a a 1971 BRHS grad, picked up the statues at North of the Border in Wiscasset. “With all the uncertainty of this year’s sports seasons, I think this is a good way to show the kids we haven’t forgotten the Seahawks,” Nickerson said.

So far, the names Odie and Pauly are early favorites for the new Seahawks. Pottle said the names were in honor of two former BRHS custodians, Odie and Pauly Hardwick. But Nickerson favors letting the 2021 BRHS class name the birds.
