Tue, 06/01/2021 - 10:45am

The Boothbay Region High School Class of 2021 spent the last of the “21 Days of May” enjoying a maskless, BRHS rendition of the iconic Fishermen’s Festival on Sherman Field May 28. Seniors enjoyed pizza for lunch before launching into the day’s activities: tug-of-war, tie-dyeing, disc golf, cornhole and the classic Cod Fish Race. Classmates chalked one another during competition and enjoyed the down time catching up face-to-face. Pier 1 Pizza provided lunch and First National Bank supplied the Class of 2021 tee-shirts.

Over the past 21 school days, the community has been celebrating seniors through daily and weekly gifts and experiences from Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, Balmy Days Cruises, Robinson’s Wharf, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Coastal Maine Popcorn, Janson’s Clothing, Brisetto’s Second Cup, First National Bank, The Ice Cream Hut/Dolphin Mini Golf, BRHS Boosters, HarborSide 1901 and Mill Cove in addition to Pier 1 Pizza’s and First National Bank’s contributions.

Gifts have included BRHS bumper stickers, blue and gold special bags from Coastal Maine Popcorn, Seahawk masks, BRHS Class of 2021 waters with graduation cap top, BRHS water bottles, free day passes to CMBG, graduation pencils, Smarties, Seahawk Spirit Coins, cupcakes from Farm 23, gift cards for a free iced coffee at Brisetto’s, pairs of sunglasses from Jansen’s Clothing, BRHS Class of 2021 sashes, 100 Grand bars, BRHS keychains, Seahawk Class of 2021 hats, cards from BRES students, $10 gas cards from Good ’n You provided by BRHS Boosters, “Make Your Bed” by Admiral William H. McRaven, BRHS Class of 2021 window decals and gift cards from Ice Cream Hut for a free ice cream.

“I am incredibly grateful to the Chamber of Commerce for helping to connect us with local businesses,” said Principal Tricia Campbell. “It’s been a very inspiring and heartwarming experience to see how the community has rallied around the Class of 2021!”

BHML sponsored the second week and invited seniors in from May 12 to graduation day to each select a book for their name to be put into. “Be it fiction, nonfiction, a favorite children’s book, or book with a red cover because that is your favorite color,” BHML staff said in the invite. “You are stepping out into the world during uncharted times … (so) get to know your hub for lifelong learning, the people’s university, from which you never graduate! Where everything is free!”

Seniors were treated to a sunrise breakfast by Harborside 1901 Bar and Grill at Robinson’s Wharf before the start of the school day May 18. On May 19, CMBG held a Class of 2021 Day in the gardens where students could wander the open parts of the garden to see how spring is coming along and get a peek at the giant trolls that have recently gone up.

BRHS Class of 2021 completed its 21 Days of May with a Senior Sunset Cruise on the Balmy Days May 26 followed by the Fisherman’s Festival Field Day.

Said Campbell, “I am truly so honored and proud to be a part of this community. It has been overwhelming to see how everyone has rallied around the Class of 2021. Our students have certainly felt the love and support!”
