BRES Wildcats to play for Busline League championship

Team advances with 4-2 win over Oceanside at home

The Boothbay Region Elementary School field hockey team is headed for the 2019 Busline League championship game on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at Point Lookout in Lincolnville to face the Troy Howard Middle School Lions or the Camden-Rockport Middle School Schooners.

Boothbay, now 6-1-1 on the year, advanced to the championship with a 4-2 win over Oceanside Middle School at Perkins Field, Boothbay Region High School on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Oceanside held a 1-0 lead at the half, but Boothbay came roaring back with four goals to take the win.

Avery Barter scored on a shot in the scoring arch which arched over the head of the Oceanside goalie with about 25 minutes to play in the second half. About two minutes later, Natalie Mayotte, off an assist by Charlee Fuchwantz, pushed the ball past the Oceanside goalie just in front of the net.

With Boothbay holding a slim 2-1 lead late into the game, Kate Campbell scored on a breakaway on assists from Barter and Kari Blake. Barter scored Boothbay’s final goal with two minutes to play and Oceanside scored its final goal with about 30 seconds to play.

The BRES Wildcats lost and tied Troy Howard in their two meetings this season, and defeated Camden in Camden. Troy Howard and Camden were scheduled to play their semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 18.

According to Village Soup, Troy Howard is 58-0-1 in its last 59 games.
