Fifty-three eighth graders at Boothbay Region Elementary School received certificates of promotion and many received Harold Clifford awards in various subjects at the BRES Eighth Grade Recognition Night on Thursday, June 16.

The BRES gym was packed with family and friends as the graduates walked into the gym to applause to take their seats.

Principal Shawna Kurr welcomed everyone and congratulated the eighth graders during her speech. The BRES Chorus, under the direction of music teacher Nancy Cole, sang “Time of Our Lives,” a hit by Green Day.

Middle School teachers handed out awards to high-ranking students. The teachers included Cole, Jeff Waldrop (band), Zach Gray (computer technology), Sarah Gordon (family science), Lauren Brown (physical education), John Gosselin (health), Kurr (citizenship), Elizabeth Tilton (math), Mame Anthony (science), Cordelia Chase (language arts), and Kristin Harmon (social studies). Kurr, Gordon and Assistant Principal Matt Lindemann handed out leadership awards and Harmon, Chase, Tilton and Anthony presented awards for outstanding work ethic and academic excellence. The top students were Eleanor Marshall and Abigail Orchard. Marshall and classmate Bailey Lewis each did a reading.

State Rep. Holly Stover presented the Secretary of State Distringuished Citizen Award to Trey Tibbetts.

Lindemann announced each student’s name as they walked to Kurr, who handed them their certificate of promotion to end the ceremony. Students then departed for the annual car parade around town.
