Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor

Breakfast to provide humanitarian aid

Fri, 04/12/2019 - 8:45am

A public community breakfast will be held at the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church on Sunday, May 5 to support humanitarian assistance for those in need along the U.S. southern border.

The breakfast will feature quiches, stradas, fruit, ham and breakfast breads. It will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Congregational Church parish hall. A goodwill offering will be asked of all participants, or, drop your donation off at the church office during regular office hours anytime between now and May 5. Please make checks out to the BBH Congregational Church; in the memo write: “Samaritan Project.”

All funds collected will go to the work of the Green Valley-Samaritans through The Church of the Good Shepherd, UCC, in Sahuarita, Arizona. Green Valley-Samaritans is an all-volunteer faith and conscience-based organization started in 2002. The Church of the Good Shepherd, UCC in Sahuarita, Arizona (just north of Nogales) is a partner/participant in this work.

“Los Samaritanos” (the Samaritans) serves as a healing presence along the USA/Mexican border, helping migrants in need of food, medicine, basic toiletries, and clothing. The group has an ongoing need for financial support to buy clothing (socks to protect tired feet), shoes, food, and fuel for the organization’s trucks that go into the desert in search of migrants. Toiletries for adults and their children are also in high demand.

The Mission Committee of the BBH Congregational Church has been in conversation with The Church of the Good Shepherd in Sahuarita and believes a partnership is a humanitarian ministry our congregation can support to provide relief to those along our southern border who need it most critically.
