Boys to join Seahawk girls at XC states

Boys finish third in MVC meet

The Boothbay Region High School cross country teams will go to states this year after a short season. The Seahawks saw only three meets starting with Winthrop High School’s Oct. 1 meet with Monmouth Academy, Madison High School and Winthrop.

Monmouth placed first among the boys teams with 22 points; BRHS, second, 41; Winthrop, third, 72; and Madison did not place. Nathan Chatterton was the first Seahawk to cross the finish line taking fourth in 20:32; Gryffin Kristan, seventh, 21:11; Lucas Hardwick, ninth, 21:46; Graham Harris, 11th, 22:15; Ryan Russell, 12th, 22:20; Fox Elder, 14th, 22:45; Marlowe Recoing-Tallen, 19th, 26:46; and Ryan Clark, 22nd, 27:54.

The only girls teams to place were Monmouth, first, with 20 points, and BRHS, second with 35 points. Glory Blethen placed sixth in 25:02; Emerson Harris, ninth, 27:05; Grace Campbell, 11th, 28:53; Kate Campbell, 13th, 29:48; Zada Smith, 15th, 31:40; Ava Schlosser, 16th, 31:43; and Emma Markowitz, 17th, 31:55.

The Seahawks traveled to Lisbon High School for their second meet Oct. 14. The boys faced Lisbon, Richmond Middle, Telstar and Hall-Dale high schools. Lisbon placed first with 32 points. BRHS has 35 and Hall-Dale 59. Nathan Chatterton took third in 19:15; Graham Harris, fifth, 20:23; Lucas Hardwick, seventh, 20:28; Gryffin Kristan, ninth, 20:50; Ryan Amaral, 11th, 22:31; Ryan Clark, 13th, 23:03; and Marlowe Recoing-Tallen, 14th, 23:14.

The lady Seahawks placed first against Hall-Dale and Lisbon. Glory Blethen took first in 23:30; Emerson Harris, second, 25:10; Grace Campbell, third, 25:19; Ava Schlosser, sixth, 27:43; Kate Campbell, seventh, 27:54; and Emma Markowitz, eighth, 29:14.

MVCs and state qualifiers

The final meets at Maranacook High School doubled as Mountain Valley Conference Championship and state qualifiers. Only the top three MVC teams, top two Western Maine Conference teams and the top Aroostook team for boys and girls qualify for the state championships.

The lady Seahawks competed Oct. 21 placing 3rd out of 11 teams, five of which placed for points: Monmouth, 1st with 30 points; Maranacook, 2nd, 47; Boothbay, 3rd, 79; Mt Abram, 4th, 86; and Wiscasset, 5th, 108. Glory Blethen placed 8th in 22:53; Emerson Harris, 14th, 24:01; Grace Campbell, 19th, 24:44; Emma Markowitz, 31st, 27:42; and Falyn Harriman, 33rd, 28:17.

The MVC Championship was the first meet for the Wiscasset Middle High School Wolverines. Julia Truesdell was the first Wolverine to cross the finish line coming in at 21st in 25:46; Emily Gilliam, 22nd, 25:53; Lily Yeaton, 26th, 26:23; Reese Hesseltine, 36th, 29:59; and Sadie Yeaton, 41st, 35:16.

The Seahawks and Wolverines boys teams competed Oct. 24 with 10 other teams, nine overall placing for points: Monmouth, first with 45 points; Lisbon, second, 74; Boothbay, third, 79; Maranacook, fourth, 113; Hall-Dale, fifth, 135; Dirigo, sixth, 152; Mt. Abram, seventh, 165; Madison, eighth, 176; and Winthrop, ninth, 178. The Wolverines, Oak Hill and Telstar did not place.

Nathan Chatterton led the Seahawks in eighth place in 18:20; Lucas Hardwick, 11th, 18:51; Gryffin Kristan, 20th, 19:36; Ryan Russell, 21st, 19:37; Graham Harris, 24th, 19:59; and Ryan Clark, 35th, 21:31.

The Wolverines’ Austin Trask placed 30th in 21:09; Nathan Gilliam, 33rd, 21:24; Michael Hendrickson, 51st, 24:15; and Bryan Gagnon, 52nd, 24:23.

The Seahawk boys face Monmouth, Lisbon and Washburn District High School for states Nov. 11. The girls face Monmouth, Maranacook and Houlton High School Nov. 14. At the WMC Class C qualifiers Oct. 28, the top two boys and girls teams will join Class C states at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast.
