Boothbay region is special

Dear Editor:

I wanted to take a moment to thank the community and to highlight what this region has a lot to offer if you take advantage of the opportunities. This was apparent when I moved here from Colorado when I was young and enrolled into the school district. Ever since I’ve been here I have been able to participate in many community events. The Boothbay region is a constantly changing community, and coping with this fact is one of our core strengths.

I am older now and will be departing shortly to take an opportunity of a lifetime. I will be joining a semester program for the latter half of my junior year. I want to thank my teachers and friends for encouraging me. Boothbay Region High School has teachers that really care about the expanding of their students knowledge as well as preparing them for the not-so-far away future of the real world. They care about our growth both in and outside the classroom.

I have been trying go get myself more involved with this place I call home; I love to participate in local events. It is not just “a piece of cake” to go out and seize the day regularly to better oneself, you have to really want to go out and take initiative to get it. The people I see everyday really inspire me to be more than who I am right now. Initially I could settle with myself as just fine, but ultimately that doesn't make sense to me. A man I really respect once told me, “If an opportunity presents itself, take it," and this seems like common sense, but to act upon it isn’t always easy.

To achieve more I find teamwork really does make the dream work. I am a part of many clubs and teams and when I see collaboration within different groups, there's usually an ultimate result of a mutual statement saying “we should do this again.” Although our community is relatively tight, I feel that we can always improve even in small ways. The Boothbay region is a really special place, and I think everyone should take the opportunity to make it theirs.
