Boothbay Region Lions Club

Tue, 10/15/2019 - 10:00am

The Boothbay Region Lions Club met Oct. 9.  We hosted a Lions Club zone meeting attended by several members from the Nobleboro and Damariscotta/Newcastle clubs.  These two clubs as well as our club reported various activities members have been involved in over the past few months. All these clubs are very active in the communities they serve.  There was a lot of discussion about how to recruit new members to our clubs.  Several ideas were entertained, including starting Leo Clubs for the kids, which in turn might bring in parents as new members.

Lions International has also relaxed a lot of their rules about holding meetings. With current technology, it is now possible to hold meetings online, so no one has to leave home. This may work really well here in Maine where distances are greater for traveling to meetings and activities. One of our members recently attended a meeting online, and she said it worked well.

Lions International is also available to help local clubs as well, and training is available for various officers to take advantage of.

The Lions zone meeting was followed by our regular business meeting. The club served fish chowder at our booth at the Fall Foliage Festival at the Boothbay Railway Village museum this weekend on Saturday, Oct. 12. We always do well with this as an annual fundraiser.

Our next meeting will be Oct. 23 at our club house on Lakeview Drive in Boothbay Harbor.  Please see our Facebook page for more information.
