Boothbay Region Lions Club

Mon, 04/15/2019 - 11:15am

The Boothbay Region Lions Club met April 10. Elwin Guthrie was our guest. He has been working with the Census Bureau for many years and will be involved in our area for the upcoming U.S. census in 2020. He explained that the census is very important for state representation in Congress and also for taxation and receiving federal funds. There are seven teams in the state of Maine, and around 1,000 people will be recruited to carry out the census. He gave us information for applying for jobs to help out. Those who are hired will be paid $16.95 per hour and $.58 per mile for travel. Mr. Guthrie told us there are posters in public places throughout our region with information, and those interested can also find more information at the website, 2020census.gov/jobs.

We voted to give a $100 donation for the book awards at the high school.

Our members have decided to sell our club house, and it will be on the market in the very near future. We are entertaining ideas as to where we will meet after the building is sold. We are also interested in any input from the community as to places that might be available for us to meet.

Our next meeting is scheduled for April 24 at the club house on Lakeview Road.
