Boothbay Region Historical Society scholarship drive

Last year, with the help of businesses and individuals in the community, Boothbay Region Historical Society was able to present their first college scholarship of $1,000 to a Boothbay Region High School student.

The trustees and staff worked with the College & Career Access coordinator at Boothbay Region High School to develop an application, and a student was chosen based on responses to an essay question and on financial need.

This year, especially with the inflation everyone is experiencing, helping a student achieve their dream of higher education is even more pressing, and they are again asking for community help in funding this scholarship.

After preservation, education is the most important part of the society’s mission. This year the historical society is back in the third grade classrooms at Boothbay Region Elementary School with a hands-on Boothbay region history program which they provide to the school at no charge. The program, which both teachers and students love, includes objects for students to handle, student activities, and a spring visit to the museum for a scavenger hunt.

Last year, along with many individuals, the following businesses generously donated to the scholarship fund: Bath Savings, Boothbay Harbor, Bayside Inn B&B, Boothbay Harbor, First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Bath, First National Bank, Damariscotta, Hodgdon Yacht Services, Southport, Pinkham’s Gourmet Market, Boothbay Harbor.

Donations at any level are welcome. Checks may be made out to Boothbay Region Historical Society with “scholarship” written in the memo line or in a note with the check, and mailed to P.O. Box 272, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. Donations may be made with a credit card over the phone, or on their website, using the donation box with “scholarship” in the “note” box. Unless given anonymously, they will recognize your partnership in this endeavor on their website, Facebook page, e-news, and in press releases.
