Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club

As I mentioned in my last column there are many behind the winter scenes initiatives. There is much to do in the dozens of programs that fuel BHYC’s seasonal operation. A season that opens in late May and closes in October. At our January Board meeting I asked that if anyone had anything that they would like to see mentioned in the Register column would they please forward that to me. At the January cocktail party hosted by Rear Commodore Jon Dunsford and Lee Corbin I asked for historic reflections and submissions for a book celebrating rhe club’s 125th anniversary celebration. This publication will feature fact, folklore, and I am sure a number of “tall tales.”

I am including the first to arrive and want to thank Charlie Cochrane, junior program team lead, for his wit and writing ability:

The holidays have come and now they have past not an Opti is ready not even a mast.

The dry suits are hung in the Center with care already for spring when the winds blow more fare.

The sailors are busy studying for school and thinking of start lines, tactics and rules.

Chris and Chantalle are busy at this time, Chris grinding and sanding and Chantalle prepping lines.

Working up schedules, curriculums and skills, they are putting together this seasons drills.

We look forward to a new season with good winds and clear skies, with outings to the harbor for ice cream and pie.

    What’s Happening

The Junior Foundation has generously donated a brand new engine for the 17-foot whaler and the club voted to replace the other aging outboard so we will be going into the new season with all engines in great shape.

One whaler was damaged this fall in an October storm but it is currently being repaired and painted and will be ready for spring.

Chris and Chantalle have been busy getting their staff lined up for this season and Chris is knee deep in touch up and repairs to dock bites and dings.

Thank you to Jen Ross and family, Eric and Sandy Hakanson and Chip Davison for helping set up the modest holiday display of Optis.

We have streamlined registration to make it easier on the office staff and program participants and will have registration updated and posted by the beginning of February

    News from Chantalle

The BHYC tennis program strives to create an environment that welcomes players of all ages and skill levels to come together and play the sport of a lifetime. Many of our BHYC tennis players are continuing with tennis outside of the summer season. Whether they are playing indoors, outdoors, for two weeks, or all year long, it is amazing that so many of our junior program players are loving the game. And for those that are waiting to hit their next forehand on the red clay at the yacht club, tennis is ready to have you back on the courts for another season.
