It has been a busy week at BHYC. The Corinthians arrived last Sunday and stayed for a Lay Day. Thanks to the orchestration of Alice and Andy Mutch and their committee, there was never a dull moment. The mariners were greeted with with bright yellow gift bags. Each one of the 40 boats was hand and hook delivered these well thought out treats as they entered the harbor. There were blueberry muffins, beverages and brochures.

The sailors barely had enough time to catch their breath before it was time to climb on board one of the Junior Program’s boats complete with a Junior sailor. The race was on … well, sort of. The weather didn’t cooperate with a misty rain and winds at 2 knots. As it turned out. the call came that the race was to be AMP which stands for Any Means of Power. Some of the Juniors even went overboard to “swim” their boats. In the end, the Corinthians won the race against BHYC.

No sooner than this classic event was history --- it has been a welcomed visit from this international club since 1937 --- it was time for our Business After Hours with the Chamber of Commerce. A first for the club, we entertained 50 members of the chamber. They were on board as the Wednesday Night Racers came ashore. First place for the three classes of races were awarded to; Boothbay Harbor One Design (3 races) C Fever skippered by Carol Sewel. PHRF (2 races) Sapphire with Jon Dunsford at the helm and the J80 (3 races) manned by Ken Colburn and family. Alice and Andy’s handsome Lord Nelson Tugboat was on the face dock and added its salty flair. The Mutches later joined the Corinthian cruise as it moved Down East.

With a day in between.,events began the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club’s 45th Regatta. Friday evening there was a Skippers Reception sponsored by Hinckley Yachts. Saturday began with the customary Skippers Meeting with plenty of coffee and doughnuts. There was a flourish of activity to follow with several boats of all sizes as they prepared to mark the race course. Then there was more activity as the racers took to the water. Winds were mild but that didn’t stop them. The skies were brilliant blue. Chef Raymond had an over the top cookout prepared for dinner…But only after some Dark and Stormy’s, Ginger Beer, Rum and Lime.

Sunday the racers were back at it and the weather couldn’t have been better. They raced all day in four different classes, the Boothbay Harbor One Design, Racing, J80 and Cruising. An Awards Ceremony followed. The Awards Ceremony was topped off with a Lobster Bake. The results announced were: First Place BHOD went to Eric Hakanson aboard Charisma. First Place J80 J.B. Clemens skippering GHO2T. First Place Racing was awarded to Ken Colburn manning Apparition. And the Cruising award went to Timothy Allen at the helm of Greyhawk.
