Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club

As I sit to write this there is a tease of spring. The sky is brilliant and the sun is climbing over the window spilling over the desk that will host our new club manager in the near future. The search process began in late October with the formation of the Search Committee. Club Treasurer Kitty Chapman is the chairwoman leading with her outstanding professional capabilities. The committee members are Vice Commodore Liz Rettenmaier, Rear Commodore Jon Dunsford, Finance Chair Marion Flores, Sandi Hackanson, Charlie Cochrane and me. We posted the position earlier than the Dec. 1 goal we set.
Over the next several weeks we received 55 resumes from all over the country. These were all responded to with appreciation. Yes, even the one who wanted to know “how many cabanas do you have on your beach?” A careful process of evaluating each of these began and by early January we had selected the top four applicants after first and second telephone interviews. As of Feb. 1, we had brought in three of these for interviews. Number four declined his interview. On the same day, the 56th resume arrived. We had the same first and second telephone interviews with him. We decided to bring him in for an interview.

As someone said me, “Won’t it be wonderful to put this search in the rear view mirror?” I’ll drink to that.

Speaking of which, Sarah Strouss will be hosting the February Thursday Night Cocktails on the 14th in the Boothbay Harbor One Design Room from 5:30 to 7 p.m. I can only imagine the event will have a Happy Valentine’s Day theme. Last month’s had bumper crop of an attendance as 45 people turned out on a wintery evening. A hearty group of BHYC members live here year around.

Our monthly board of directors meeting will be on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. We are affirming that the Search Committee will have a club manager candidate to propose for the board’s approval.
