Breaking  news! Commodore elect Gardiner Rapeleye has announced that Chef Raymond has agreed to return to BHYC for at least two more years! This is exciting news as continuity of quality dining room product is a prerequisite for club success. In Chef Raymond we have a real gem, no question about it! He has all-of the skills that a successful restaurant needs. Chef Raymond owned an operated a restaurant for many years. We laud his skills, his purchasing ability, menu variety, and he keeps a spotless kitchen ... the hallmarks of success. Thanks Raymond and welcome aboard for a longer cruise.

We had so much to say in last week’s article that we didn’t have space to recall the huge crowd that assembled for the Linda Greenlaw  talk. The dining room was packed and we saw many folks carrying books when the plied their way home. Thanks to  Jeff for making them available. And for another author, thanks to Sandra Neily for making her new  book available to members.

Too bad that the Bhutan lecture was canceled but the presenter had major storm damage and problems and just could not be with  us. A new entry has been posted and for those of you who read this on the electronic version you may have time to attend the Volvo Ocean Race presentation by Tucker Thompson on Tuesday night. Tucker Thompson was the Public Host of the 35th America’s Cup, and was one of the TV announcers of the 34th Cup in San Francisco. A veteran sailing commentator, Thompson has hosted over 1,500 sailing shows on T2PTV and live television, and covered the Cup on TV since 2007 in Valencia, Spain. A national award-winning TV and video host, producer and public speaker, he’s also a former champion sailor who sailed with America True in the 2000 America’s Cup in New Zealand. Thanks Charles for putting this together.

The dining room is still open and reservations can be made in the usual way. The desk is manned 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily so make your plans and enjoy. Remember the launch hours are now 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  so plan accordingly. Thursday night cocktails will continue until further notice. Come and enjoy David’s mixes and be sure to thank him for a wonderful summer. In my humble opinion David is a five star gem and is so much more than a bartender. Give him your words of appreciation and commiserate with him about the Yankees. He understands that from time to time the Red Sox will prevail (I hope!).

The high school sailing team took second at the Bull Dog Open on Saturday with the A Division winning and the B Division taking second; however, the Falmouth team had a lower combined point score. It was very foggy, then sunny and the wind came up nicely into the mid teens.

Sunday the team won the first Pen Bay Series Regatta in Rockland. After two races crew Ella Beauregard switched boats with Alton Coolidge sending the B boat to finish with a 2nd and a 3rd and finishing 7th overall while the A Boat took first. The combined score was enough to win the event by 9 points. The club sponsorship and operation if this program is a major contribution to our community.
