Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library

I’m sure you’re all aware by now that the library is closed to the public until at least Tuesday, April 6. We’ve talked about how the Maine State Library extended all due dates until at least April 15, and we’ve talked about all the great things you can do online to stay informed and entertained.

But I know there’s really only one thing you all want to hear about: Me, your furry little friend from the Children’s room, Zeus!

So here’s a list of your most urgent questions answered!

    Where are you right now?

Miss Harolyn took me home to take care of me and keep me company while the library is closed. She took my hutch too, so I’d be more safe and comfortable in my own space.

Are you lonely without all the kids?

Yes! I miss them pulling the chairs up to my hutch and hanging out with me and giving me snacks, reading to me and slipping me snacks, showing me their drawings and passing me snacks, crowding around my hutch elbowing to give me snacks, lots of snacks, glorious snacks!

    Do you have enough food?

Define “enough.” I mean Miss H is making sure I have fresh water, hay, and some treats now and then, but….where are my little people and the snacks? And where are the adult patrons and volunteers that come in the Children’s Room just to say “hi” to me and give me snacks?

    How about toilet paper?

What’s up with this toilet paper obsession? While cleaning my cage this morning Miss H mumbled something about hopefully not having to resort to using the newspapers she places in my cage under the shredded paper.

    Are you being read to?

Certainly. Miss H read a few chapters from “The Wild Robot,” and her daughter read from “Barron’s Calculus” but I fell asleep in my hay basket, so not sure how that story ended. Oh, and what’s fun is that while cleaning and cooking Miss H plays audiobooks from CloudLibrary. We are listening  to “I’m Just No Good at Rhyming,” and also started “Arabel’s Raven.” She’s planning a family listen to “Charlotte’s Web” soon.

What don’t you miss being away from the library?

I don’t like my nails being clipped, and Miss H had me scheduled to have my nails done on Friday March 20, and it looks like she forgot. Yes! Wait...is she going to read this? Too late to retract this comment?

Note to readers: Zeus is scheduled to have his nails clipped at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26.
