I love a mystery!
Tue, 10/29/2019 - 11:00am

Fall appeared early this year. Beautiful shapely leaves were dropping so fast that it that it looked like a colorful rain. Suddenly a storm with winds so strong it took down trees and power lines. I was driving down Route 96 on my way to the library when I came upon my favorite spot in the fall. It looked like a scene from a Stephen King movie. There were straw and sheet covered bodies laying everywhere. I felt sad for all the neighbors whose hard work and effort had gone into preparing for fall and Halloween. Returning home later in the day, lo and behold, my favorite scene was back in place. Funny faces peeking out from under straw hats, ghosts flying high, and front lawns ready and waiting for little goblins playing the game of trick or treat.

The exciting time for me this October was getting ready for the second year of the “I Love a Mystery Book Club.” It has proven to be very popular. There were 17 mystery lovers in attendance at the Oct. 19 meeting, all excited and ready to participate. Over the summer the club was scheduled to read “Pieces of Her,” a mystery thriller by Karin Slaughter.

Karin Slaughter, known for her “Will Trent” series, has written three standalone novels that are scheduled for film or television production.  As of February 2019, Netflix has given the production for “Pieces of Her” (a series) to include an eight-part episode for its first season. Filming is scheduled for this fall.

For those mystery readers out there who don't have the time for book clubs but are interested in what we are reading, you can go onto our library's website, www.bbhlibrary.org

Scroll down to  “BHML Book Clubs” towards the bottom of the page, and click on “I Love a Mystery!” to find current and past titles. For a more personal touch, the library staff is always ready and willing to help you.

For the month of November we will be reading “Purgatory Ridge” #3 by William Kent Krueger. He is one of my favorite mystery authors. He writes in a series. I recommend starting at #3 and if you like the story and want to read more then go back and start from the beginning #1. I'm at #12.

    Happy reading mystery lovers!
