Kids’ clubs resume in October
Tue, 09/24/2019 - 10:30am

Now that the kids have had a chance to settle into their back-to-school routines, and the library staff has had a chance to re-stock, re-organize, and recover from the summer mayhem, we’re ready to resume our after school kids’ clubs.

Perhaps most importantly, we’ve stocked up on snacks!

We’re ready to open our doors on Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. for Lego Club. Lego Club is open to first and second graders and will offer both free play and building challenges with everyone’s favorite stackable bricks. BRES parents, check your student’s backpack for a registration flier.

Also on Wednesdays we’ll be bringing back our ever popular Minecraft Club for third and fourth graders. Once again, Minecraft Club will run from 2 to 3 p.m. Bring your own tablet or use one of ours. Registration fliers are in those backpacks!

Coding Club will be on Fridays, beginning Oct. 4, from 3 to 4 p.m. We’ll start by learning to code with Scratch, an open source kids’ programming language built by researchers at MIT. This club is open to kids in the fifth and sixth grades. As with Minecraft Club, students will be welcome to bring their own tablet or use one of ours.

All three clubs will run through Friday, Dec. 20, and will meet whenever there is school. That means Coding Club won’t meet on Friday, Oct. 11, due to a teacher in-service day.

Kids may take the bus from BRES to the library. Please send permission slips to the school office if your child will be riding the bus to BHML.

Please also remember that pickup is at 3 p.m. for the Wednesday clubs and 4 p.m. for the Friday club.
