‘A Muppet Christmas Carol’ at the Library
Wed, 12/12/2018 - 8:00am

If you haven’t visited the library on a Wednesday between 1:45 and 3 p.m., you  are probably not aware that about twenty 5 to 13-year-olds descend on the Children’s Room every week at that time for Minecraft Club.

Well, the Children’s Room and the lawn, because apparently Maine kids think anything over 20 degrees is “play outside weather.”

They’re wonderful of course, full of energy, enthusiasm, and ideas.

One sweet 8-ish-year old boy saw our “Library Feedback and Dreams” book a few Wednesdays ago, and asked what it was for.

“It’s to collect ideas from people about what they’d like to see here,” I explained.

“You know what you need?” he immediately responded.

“What?” I couldn’t wait to hear.

“A claw machine filled with Minecraft plushies.”

    I love kids.

Miss Harolyn, our Children’s Librarian, and I plan to show a Christmas movie this month, which now seems like a pretty dull idea compared to a claw machine, but we’re sticking with it.

We hope you will join us in the Great Room to watch “A Muppet Christmas Carol” on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. There will be popcorn.

Before that, at 1 p.m. on the 15th, enjoy a special Boothbay Lights story time with Miss Harolyn in the Children’s Room. It’s just all kinds of holiday cheer this weekend!

You can’t help but get into the holiday spirit at the library, and a big part of that is due to the absolutely wonderful lights that Boothbay Harbor Public Works put up on our trees. They were out there for an entire day on one of the coldest days of the year, and they did a fantastic job.

Thank you to all of the spirited folks and families who made Santa’s visit to the Library on Dec. 1 so special. It’s such a treasure to see all the smiles on faces, young and old, and it wouldn’t happen without all of the people power. Special thanks the Chamber of Commerce for orchestrating Santa’s visit with and his talented troupe of elves, Boothbay Region Greenhouses for the beautiful garland, the Garden Club for our fresh wreaths, and to the community band for the carols during the tree lighting.

Some days it seems like our differences dominate this community, but I don’t think that’s what’s really true. I think we all want the same thing.

Except for the Minecraft Club kid. He wants a claw machine.
