Boothbay comes back on Winthrop for win

Down by 10 with just over three and a half minutes to go in the third quarter, the Boothbay Region Seahawks went on to outscore the visiting Winthrop Ramblers, 29 to 4, and win 56-41 at Porter Memorial Gymnasium, Boothbay Region High School on Thursday night.

Coach Dan Hallinan got his first varsity victory as Boothbay improved to 1-1 on the season.

The Seahawks were led in scoring by their three seniors – Sullivan Rice with 17 points (10 in the third quarter), followed by Ben Pearce with 16 (eight in the fourth quarter) and Kaleb Ames with 14.

Boothbay was perfect from the line in the pivotal last quarter, making 12 of 12 free throws.

Winthrop was led by Gavin Perkins with 23 points (four 3-pointers). Noah Grube added six points for the Ramblers.

“We had the weight on our shoulders down 10 in the third quarter, then we tightened our defense and started hitting our shots,” said Hallinan.

Boothbay is next scheduled to host Medomak on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m.
