Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine rescheduling Midcoast Bowl for Kids’ Sake

Sat, 03/21/2020 - 12:00pm

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine’s Midcoast Bowl for Kids’ Sake events, previously scheduled for April in Belfast, Waldoboro and Rockport, are being postponed. As recommended by the CDC, the agency is following social distancing guidelines for the safety of supporters, staff, and Bigs and Littles. Bowling events originally planned for April 2-11, will be held in May and June according to the following schedule:

Thursday, May 28, 1 to 6 p.m., at ALLPlaY Family Entertainment Center in Belfast

Saturday, May 30, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at ALLPlaY Family Entertainment Center in Belfast

Saturday, June 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport

Thursday, June 18, 2 to 7 p.m. at Sammi’s Family Entertainment Center in Waldoboro

“We are committed to continuing Bowl for Kids’ Sake events to celebrate our community’s support of the 250 matches we serve in the Midcoast region,” according to BBBSMM Executive Director Gwendolyn Hudson, who stated the agency is closely monitoring the ever-changing situation and will make adjustments to future event schedules as necessary. “Funding for our matches is critical, as we know our Littles need their mentors now more than ever.”

With school closures, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine has launched a “Big Pen Pal” program, facilitating the sharing of pen pal letters and artwork between Bigs and Littles to keep school-based matches engaged and connected. The agency is also supporting its community-based matches (adult mentors who meet weekly in their communities) through frequent professional match support and encouraging the use of “virtual meetings” during this time of social distancing.

Individuals and businesses already registered for Bowl for Kids’ Sake will be contacted to reschedule their bowling date. New teams can register online by visiting www.bbbsmidmaine.org.

Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2020, presented by Hannaford Supermarkets and Camden National Bank, is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine’s largest fundraiser, funding more than half of the agency’s operating budget that serves seven counties throughout midcoast, eastern and central Maine. Last year’s midcoast bowling event raised over $70,000 for community-based and school-based mentoring programs in Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties. This year’s goal is to raise $90,000 for local youth.
