Each summer on the first Sunday of Windjammer’s Week, the Boothbay Harbor One Design (BHOD) Association sponsors a race in the inner harbor. The Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club supports this event and holds seven more weekend sail and race events all open to the public through August.
On Sunday, there were six BHOD sloops racing plus Loon the original 1937 BHOD sailing. One other boat accepted the invitation to sail with the fleet. BHOD sloops are 21-foot long keel sailing sloops dating from 1938. It was fun to see the youngest crew take the day in a 1941 restored boat.
Next Saturday, June 27, is the first Invitational Race to be sailed in the outer harbor, called the Commodore’s Cup. It is a two-day series of races. The second Commodore Cup race will be held on July 18.
