Dear Editor:
The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library fundraiser plant sale held on Saturday, June 6 was a great success thanks to the great team of volunteers and support from the community.
The core group of volunteers started seedlings months ago and were dividing plants from their gardens all through April/May and they include: Anna Apollonio, Rita Arnold, B.J. Dobson, Denise Friant, Bonnie Ginger, Sue Mello, Jamie Morin.
Many thanks also to other community members who donated their beautiful, healthy plants on set-up day, Friday. We had additional help setting up and on sale day from Leslie Volpe and Vicki Reineke. Christina Kurtz, Dick Morrison, and Kerrigan Burns took care of the check-out table. Other volunteers, whose help was much appreciated, came from indispensable guys with trucks who transported plants to the library's lawn: Gary Arnold, Howie Friant and Jon Lewis. The Boothbay Harbor Police Department monitored our set up over-night. Also, thanks to Geoff Smith for agreeing to our using the fire bays for the sale in the event of rain. We didn't need them this time. But it's always good to have a Plan B.
Donations of much-needed potting soil came from Ames in Wiscasset, Home Depot, Lowe’s and Walmart. Boothbay Craft Brewery gave us 25 box trays perfect for carrying away purchased plants.
Lastly, thanks to all the avid gardeners in our community who purchased plants and are embracing planting natives. We had hundreds of plants. If you missed it, there are a few left-over on a table outside the library in exchange for a donation. At last count, we raised just over $2,000 in support of all the wonderful programs the library provides to our community.
