The summer of ’21 is finally upon us and hallelujah to that! Bring on restaurants, parties, boating, traffic (OK, it’s not all good), and most of all, bring on the fun.

Last year was tough in so many ways, but hopefully you found something positive to do or appreciate during the lockdown. Now that we are open for business, let’s get back to the business of a social summer.

The first big village wide event will be the July 4 celebration occurring on - you guessed it - the Fourth. Things will kick off with the Bayville Improvement Association meeting beginning at 9 a.m. at the Community House.

This will be followed by the parade and march to the sea which all starts at noon. All will be rewarded at the end of the journey with hot dogs, etc. If you don’t eat hot dogs, bring something similar to the cooks and they will do their best not to ruin it.

Speaking of the BIA, they need you! Due to various infractions too numerous to list, one of its members (yours truly) is being forced to resign. This is a great opportunity for someone with enthusiasm and youth to help the board do just as the name implies, improve Bayville. Obviously, a nearly impossible task, so it’s quite easy and fun. Just let someone know you are interested and word will get around.

Next on the social calendar is the Waterfront Festival on July 31. This will be one for the ages, so make sure you are there either to participate in the games or the cheering. There are lots of great events for all ages and of course, cash and trophies for our 13 and under crowd as well as the older folk division. Each year there a few people who just can’t quite overcome the grueling mental and physical challenges of our triathlon and perhaps this year your voice could help their dream of finishing become reality.

With only a mere seven days for recovery and clean-up, on Aug. 7, the Bayville Annual meeting begins at 9 a.m. The newest board member (again yours truly) is honored to be there and looks forward to helping preserve and enhance what makes Bayville the special place that it is.

Unfortunately, the position became available due to the passing of Jim Coleman. Jim and his wife Nancy have done so much for Bayville and his presence will be missed.

Unfortunately, there are other wonderful people we lost this past year and we will miss seeing them all too; Debbie Gilchrist, Greg Merrill Sr. and Henry Abbott. Our condolences to their families and to our community. The enhanced Friendship Garden and the new Memorial Rock are really nice additions to Bayville and a great place to reflect on loved ones we lost and miss.

I look forward to seeing everyone up close soon! Please have your news ready when I see you!
