Babcock wins Hood scholarship
Carter Babcock of Boothbay is among the 18 New England high school seniors awarded a $5,000 Hood Sportsmanship scholarship at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 7.
Babcock’s successful campaign for the scholarship began in March, when online voting placed him among the 10 finalists from Maine. He then was interviewed by a panel of judges and was selected as one of Maine’s three Hood scholars.
Each year, Hood awards $5,000 college scholarships to three high school seniors in each New England state. Each applicant must have participated in a varsity sport, maintained a 3.0 grade point average, volunteered in his or her community and displayed a high degree of sportsmanship while playing high school sports.
Babcock is a three-season athlete who has played and excelled at baseball, football and basketball since his elementary school days. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to attend Plymouth State University next year and major in communications and marketing.
