Arts, crafts at Southport Yacht Club Aug. 10-11

Thu, 08/08/2019 - 8:00am

Once a year, local artists and craftspeople professional and amateur come together at Southport Yacht Club in Cozy Harbor for the Annual Arts and Crafts Fair. Exhibits range from driftwood art to knitted clothes, oil paintings, photography and much more.

Each year, there are tables of crafts in the Senior Yacht Club building, while down below, in the Junior Yacht Club building, larger art pieces are on display.

This year there will be some new and exciting features. Fiddler Owen Kennedy, 14, from Winthrop will provide live music. He has an extensive repertoire and extraordinary talent. On Saturday, he’ll play unaccompanied, but visitors may have heard him perform with groups around the state, including the Pineland Fiddlers, or turning his talents to classical music with the Snow Pond Youth Symphony and the Mozart Mentors Orchestra.

There will also be live demonstrations and classes. Villard Studios will offer wood-block printing classes for those who’d like to create their own art after being inspired by the art of others. Children and adults are all welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The class is $25 for two people, $10 per additional child.

    The fair is free. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11. Kennedy will perform Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wood-block printing classes are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, email sycartshow@gmail.com
