Dear Editor:

As an east side business owner, I would like to express some thoughts on the upcoming zoning vote.

I am completely supportive of the efforts to protect portions of the east side from future development, specifically Sea Pier and Cap’n Fish’s. However, I do not feel those protections should extend to the rest of the east side. The region needs updated tourist facilities, increased tax dollars to support schools and other infrastructure needs within the community, as well as jobs.

The properties that will be impacted by this vote are not working waterfront, and it is highly unlikely they ever will be. All of the owners of these properties should be allowed to improve them.

The proposed changes will provide a fair and balanced approach to making improvements to the east side. I urge voters to approve warrant items 3, 4 and 5.
