Angels in Boothbay
Dear Editor:
At the age of five our grandson Sam firmly believed God lived in Maine. He knew God lived in heaven and as his mother repeatedly said “Maine is heaven,” that was where God lived. We did not meet God but we did meet a group of angels this week in Boothbay.
Tuesday morning found us in a difficult situation on Route 96 as we tried to rectify a misdirection from the GPS unit to turn on to a side road and came face to face with a large sign stating “The GPS is wrong!” As we reversed direction the car’s front wheel slid into a drainage ditch and left us high and dry.
Within seconds, Ed and Betty Shaw had stopped to offer assistance and called G & G Towing, another gentleman bravely began to direct the traffic around us and alerted the Boothbay Fire Department, and to our amazement every car going by slowed down to offer assistance.
The prompt arrival of Asst. Fire Chief Arsenault and his men and G & G Towing had us quickly and safely out of the ditch and traffic back to normal. Meanwhile, Ed and Betty Shaw had cheerfully supported us throughout and insisted on leading us to our ultimate destination.
We had a brief and memorable trip to Maine and cannot thank the residents of Boothbay enough for their kindness and efficiency.
