American Legion Post 36

Mon, 10/25/2021 - 10:30am

Last Sunday was our last breakfast for the year and what a great turnout! Thanks to all who joined and a special thanks to our pianist, Bob Moore. While the Post won't be having our Sunday breakfasts until April 2022, our Auxiliary will be having their breakfasts on Saturdays once a month (Jan. 1, Feb. 12 and March 12) from 8 to 10 a.m. The great thing about the Legion breakfasts is the camaraderie, seeing friends and neighbors and meeting new folks. So, during the cold winter months, we can continue having that social interaction and you don't have to get up so early to enjoy it. I can promise you, the food will be just as good as what you are used to (the Auxiliary just might say it could be even better)! Rumor has it that Bob Moore just might be providing the music entertainment at those functions as well.

On Monday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m., we will be having our monthly Zoom meeting with the head of the VA healthcare in Maine and the head of the VA Maine Benefits office. So, if you have any specific questions about the VA, this is a great time to ask the boss. With Caregiver support and more VA provided community care, I'm sure many of you have questions. We will Zoom from the Hall and if you send me an email, I can send you the link.

For the Legion members, don't forget the Awards dinner on Nov. 6. I sent emails to all Legion members with emails so all you have to do is reply "yes" or "no" to make your RSVP. And, we will accept credit cards at the door. If you don't have email, just call the Hall (633-4487) and make your reservation. Don't forget, you can bring family members with you and/or bring a guest who just might be interested in our Post and meet some of our members.

Please remember Nov. 11th is Veterans Day and we will be honoring our veterans at the Hall at 11. The ceremony and the following flag disposal ceremony only takes about an hour. This is a federal holiday with the intent for us all to take time on this day to honor our veterans and what better way than to be part of this ceremony. As you all know, Legionnaires are veterans and understand what patriotism is all about. We all raised our right hand and swore to defend our great country even to the extent of paying the ultimate sacrifice, so we know what patriotism is. But, do our kids and grandkids? Our non-veteran friends? I'd like to think so. But, having them come to these ceremonies just might help them better understand our veteran community just a little better.

The next Legion meeting is Nov. 8 with a light dinner (I understand that Chef Harmon will be preparing lasagna for the meal) at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting starting at 6.
