American Legion Post 36

Mon, 10/18/2021 - 8:15am

This Sunday will be our last Sunday breakfast until April 2022; but, not the last breakfast! The Auxiliary, with the support of the Post, will be having once a month Saturday breakfasts, starting on New Year’s Day and then Feb. 12 and March 12. We look forward to seeing our regular Sunday guests and, many more who just aren't able to make Sundays. The breakfasts will be one hour later, from 8 to 10 a.m. One thing you can pretty much count on, no outside dining; but you never know ... it is Maine after all! And, don't forget the dinners on Nov. 20 and Dec. 11.

Speaking of dinners, Nov. 6 is rapidly approaching. Time to contact the Legion (633-4487) or email dapatch@roadrunner.com and make a reservation. The cost of the dinner is $25 per person. Ralph Smith of Mine Oyster will be catering and he always does a terrific job. This year we will be honoring the Boothbay Harbor Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff Department, “Big Al” Cohen, and Ralph Smith, of Mine Oyster and the Bistro. So, please come and help us honor those who have done so much for our community and our veterans! The evening starts with a social hour (well, half hour) at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6. If you are not a member of the Post but a veteran and interested in joining the Legion or finding out more about what we do, you are welcome to join us.

Nov. 11, Veterans Day, will be honored with the traditional ceremony at the Legion at 11 a.m. followed by the Flag Disposal ceremony. All in the community are invited to honor our veterans and to pay tribute to our national flag by being part of the disposal ceremony. Nov. 11th is a school holiday. I encourage all students to participate in these events, learn more about the military service and what our national flag represents. We will be honoring all the Veterans at St. Andrews Village by having our traditional “drive by” at 2 p.m. It would be great to have as many vehicles in the "parade" as possible. We will be assembling at St. Columba Church on Emory Lane at 1:45 and before proceeding to St. Andrews.

The firewood raffle drawing is also on Nov. 11th. New news! We will draw four winners, each winning a cord of well-seasoned firewood. Many thanks to Brian Barter and Tom Minerich for their donation of the firewood! Not too late to buy tickets. Call the Hall or come to the next/last Sunday breakfast on Oct. 24th to get your tickets.

Don’t forget the breakfast this Sunday. We will again be asking for your feedback so we can make next breakfast season even better then the past! And, we will again be enjoying the awesome music by our pianist, Bob Moore.

The next Legion meeting is Nov. 8 with a light dinner at 5:30 and the meeting starting at 6.
