Our annual Yard Sale is fast approaching! We have made room in our storage unit behind the Hall for those who would like to donate smaller items. For larger items, we will be able to put them in the Hall after Aug. 2 or directly under the tent on Friday, Aug. 6. We are counting on our members to do a little "summer cleaning" and add to our collection of treasures. We welcome community members to support our Legion by donating items as well. For everyone who would like to have their personal Yard Sale, why not hold it on the same day in the same place as the Legion? We provide the advertising to attract folks to this Yard Sale and have the advantage of having food available for everyone. So, the more community members that join us, the bigger the draw. It only costs $20 for a 10-foot by 20-foot space and some space available for cars/trucks. Please call the Hall at 633-4487 to make a reservation.

As any veteran knows, the military discharge document called the DD 214 is the key to receiving any military benefits. If you only served a short while and don't think you have any benefits coming to you, you might consider asking your family if they would like to remember your military service when you pass by having military honors at your funeral or celebration of life. Might want to save on the cost of interment by being interred in a veteran cemetery, all available to a veteran with a DD 214. So, if you don't have yours or can't find yours, now is the time to get it. It is easy. If your home of record was Maine when you were discharged, it is very likely that the DD214 is on file with the State and the Maine Bureau of Veterans Services can send it to you. Of course, there is a form to fill out, but that takes two minutes. You can find the form at www.maine.gov/veterans/. Not from Maine, google DOD Form 180, fill it out and follow the instructions where to mail it (National Archives in St. Louis, MO). This might take 3-4 months (longer now as they are still recovering from COVID). You can use the Form 180 to get ALL of your military records as well. If you are a surviving member of a veteran and would like to see his/her military records, you can use the Form 180 to do that as well. You can also call the Hall at 633-4487 and we can provide the form and help you fill it out.

Sunday breakfasts at the Legion continue to grow into a real community event. Our next breakfast is this Sunday, Aug. 1, 7-9 a.m. Lots of fun, free raffles every 20-30 minutes, and piano entertainment provided by Bob Moore.

The next Legion meeting is Aug. 9. Hot dogs/hamburgers (or something else) at 5:30 p.m., the meeting starts at 6.
