American Legion Post 36

First, I would like to thank RADM Howard for his important and informative talk following our Sunday breakfast on national security and the role of special operations. Those in attendance asked great questions and I think we all gained a much better understanding of the challenges facing our military (national security). It was great having his family join us as well.

Our breakfasts continue to grow in attendance and in the variety of breakfast items served. And, we are especially pleased to have Bob Moore providing musical entertainment. As one of our guests, a piano teacher, said to me, “Bob isn't a piano player, he is a pianist!” Thank you, Bob, for adding your musical talents for our breakfast family.

Our next major event is the Yard Sale on Aug. 7. We are starting to get folks in the community reserving space for their tables. I learned at our last breakfast that one space will be selling a skiff in great condition! So, please consider having your Yard Sale at our Yard Sale and capitalize on the crowd that will be attending. Food will be available from the start to the finish! So, please call the Hall at 633-4487 and reserve a space.

For folks that would like to donate items for the Legion to sell, you can place the items in the brown shed in the rear of the Hall. No furniture or large items please. For large items, they can be brought to the Hall on Friday, Aug. 6.

And, don't forget two weeks later on the 21st August, the barbecue fundraiser for the Veterans Emergency Temporary Shelter (VETS) at the American Legion Hall. A suggested donation of $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12 is requested. Please call (207) 242-9310 so they can get a head count. This is going to be an awesome traditional barbecue at the Hall with the yard set up with games for the family to have fun.

The Great State of Maine Air Show is back at Brunswick Landing on Labor Day, Sept. 4-5 featuring the Navy's demonstration team, the Blue Angles, flying the new Super Hornet, F-18. Tickets are available online. The Friday before the show the "Blues" do a dress rehearsal, essentially the complete show but without the audience. However, the organizers are providing free tickets to veterans for the rehearsal, so those veterans who want to attend without the crowds can. Post 20 is organizing this so those wanting tickets contact Joe Donahue (207) 607-9735. Tickets are for veterans only, no guests. At this writing, the time of the event is not known. When you call for your ticket, Joe will get your email address so he can keep you up to date.

The next Legion meeting is Aug. 9. Hot dogs/hamburgers (or something else) at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6.
