American Legion Post 36

I was hoping to report this week that the travel claim process with the VA has been resolved and to explain the new process. Unfortunately, I can't explain the new process ... yet. But, the VA knows the problems that were created by requiring travel claims to be processed online using DS. Our congressional delegation has been actively involved in solving this problem as well. Progress has been made in that you know don't have to go to the DS site but can use your Myhealthivet Premium account. Just how to do that, I haven't figured out yet. Perhaps some of you have and if so, congratulations! But, I am on a mission ... I am going to figure this out! I am working with Mike Labbe (Myhealthivet manager) and Wayne Morey (travel claim manager) to come up with a step-by-step process that we all can understand to make the claims. The other issue is the back log of paper claims. On March 8, the VA was authorized to go back to the old paper claim process. This created a 3,700 claim back log and while they have this as a priority now, it is still going to take some weeks to clear. So, standby, more information will be forthcoming.

As has been reported, our breakfasts will reopen again on April 11. Same time, same place, and same recommended low donation. While we are slowly seeing things open up as the vaccination rates continue to increase and the COVID-19 numbers continue to improve, the Legion will continue with caution as we did last summer. So, masks and distancing will continue. All the usual breakfast items will return, including the famous waffle station with blueberries and/or strawberries, topped with whipped cream. SOS on biscuits (that is sausage and white sauce) will return as a regular item. Our own Arthur Richardson will be back flipping pancakes and Texas French toast, but he will also provide eggs to order (sorry, no omelets ... yet). Last year we added delivery to Shore Hills Campground and will continue to do that this year. That experience led us to offer "take out" this year. So, just need to send in someone to place the order, and the order will be delivered to your car. It has been a long winter and we miss seeing everyone. So, please consider join us for our re-opening! For anyone who wants to promote their business or advertise an event, we will add your PowerPoint slide to our rolling presentation during the breakfasts. For just $100, you can have your ad running for the entire breakfast season. You can even change it during the season, just send the revision. Want to add an additional slide, just $50 more. Contact the Legion 633-4487 or email me at dapatch@roadrunner.com if interested.

Rentals are starting to happen! Call and reserve soon!

The next Post meeting is in person and Zoom on April 12 at 6 p.m.
