American Legion Post 36

The annual Legion Yard Sale on Sept. 14 is going to be bigger and better than ever. This year, the American Legion Auxiliary will be having their Craft Fair in the American Legion Hall in the Boothbay Industrial Park and the Legion Post will have our yard sale in the yard next to the Hall. There will be 10-foot by 20-foot spaces on the lawn available for $25. There will be a limited number of tables, available on a first come first serve basis. The American Legion Post will have approximately 10 tables for donated items, the sales from these items will go to support the programs of the Legion. This year, Ralph Smith of Mine Oyster, the Boat House Bistro, and Cods Head Fish House & BBQ has volunteered to cater the event to make this much more than a yard sale and craft fair. The BBQ is promising to be the highlight of the summer! While September seems like a long way away, it is suggested that you make your space reservations soon. Just call the Legion Hall at 633-4487 and leave your name, phone number, and how many 10 x 20 spaces you would like. A Post representative will return your call to confirm your reservation. Payment will be made when you arrive on Sept. 14. While I have it on good authority that the weather on the 14th will be perfect, in the event my sources are a little off, Sunday the 15th is the rain date. For those who want to donate to the Legion tables, your items can be dropped off at the Hall at any time. Members of the Legion will check the Hall daily and move the items into on-site storage.

Every year there is always confusion relative to membership annual dues. The 2019 membership runs from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. That means you will soon, if you haven’t already, received your notification that your 2020 dues are now due. I just received mine today. It is highly recommended that you pay your $35 dues directly to the Post (American Legion Post 36, P.O. Box 874, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. This will expedite your receiving your new membership card. The goal is to have all membership dues paid by the end of 2019. American Legion Posts that accomplish this goal receive special recognition. We have significantly grown our Post over the past couple of years thanks to the hard work of our membership and more community awareness of the important work of the Legion in our community. With our new Sons of the Legion Squadron added to our family, we will continue to grow and accomplish more in supporting our military, veterans, and families.

The next breakfast will be Sunday, July 28. Spread the word, bring the family, bring your neighbors, make it a community event. Remember, your breakfast donations are how we are able to continue funding the operations of the Hall, and the programs we support like Boys State, Girls State, veteran emergency funds, and our Scout organization.
