American Legion Post 36

Mon, 02/04/2019 - 5:45pm

As has been reported, our community continued to respond in the most generous way by joining us in our fundraising special breakfast to support our Coast Guard men and women during this most recent shut down. We presented the $2,200 check to Officer in Charge, BMC Adam Smart, this past Monday who expressed his sincere appreciation on behalf of those under his command. Even as we presented the check, contributions are continuing to come in to the Post.

On March 16, we will be having our first St. Patrick’s Day dinner. The Post and our Auxiliary will be hosting this event. A donation of $10 per person is requested for the dinner. The traditional St. Patrick’s Day dinner will be provided and other delectables to enhance the event. Reservations are required by calling the Post at 633-4487 or emailing dapatch@roadrunner.com

Our Capital Campaign is underway and many thanks to those who have already contributed. All donations are tax deductible. Checks can be made out to American Legion Post 36, P.O. Box 874, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

On Saturday, Ciara Pitcher, our local high school senior, will be competing at the American Legion State Oratorical finals at Thomas College. Ciara will be presenting a 10-minute speech on the Constitution followed by a five-minute speech on a selected Constitutional Amendment. The winner of this context will go to Nationals and a chance to win $18,000. The event starts at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. Everyone keep Ciara in your thoughts and wish her good luck!

Many in the community have been in the Legion Hall in the Industrial Park for events like our every other Sunday breakfast, for wedding receptions, birthday parties, celebrations of life, Christmas parties, and other events so the large Hall, full industrial kitchen, remodeled bathrooms, WiFi capability and internet access is known to most. For those who aren’t, and looking for a place to hold an event, contact the Hall at 633-4487 and stop by and check it out. It’s the best deal in town.

Our next American Legion and Auxiliary meeting is Feb. 11, dinner at 5:30 p.m., meeting starts at 6. We will have a ham dinner with all the trimmings. Are you a veteran and not a member? Are you a spouse of a Legionnaire or have a brother, sister, father, grandfather who served in the military and might be interested in joining the Auxiliary, then come to the meeting and learn more about the Legion and the Auxiliary and how we serve our community.
